How OSRS XP Works

Old School RuneScape uses an exponential experience curve. The formula for XP at each level L is:

XP = floor(L + 300 × 2^(L/7)) / 4

Key Facts:

  • All 23 skills use the same XP table
  • Level 92 = exactly halfway to 99 (6,517,253 XP)
  • Level 99 = 13,034,431 XP (maximum)
  • Early levels are very fast, later levels exponentially slower

Complete OSRS XP Table (All Skills)

OSRS Skills Guide & Training Times

Understanding XP rates helps plan your training. Here's a comprehensive guide to each of the 23 skills in Old School RuneScape:

Combat Skills

Attack, Strength, Defence (13,034,431 XP to 99)

Time to 99: 100-200 hours depending on method

Fast Training: Nightmare Zone with Dharok's armor (90k-120k XP/hr at 92+ HP). Requires completion of certain quests and costs for absorption potions. Very AFK-friendly for maxing melee stats.

Profitable Training: Slayer is the gold standard (40k-60k XP/hr in melee stats plus 30k-50k Slayer XP/hr). Earns money while training through monster drops and Slayer rewards. Recommended for most players.

Quest Start: Waterfall Quest gives 13,750 XP to Attack and Strength each (level 1 to 30 instantly). Follow with Fight Arena, Grand Tree, and Monkey Madness I for huge XP gains without training.

Hitpoints (13,034,431 XP to 99)

Time to 99: Trains automatically with combat, typically 150-250 hours

Hitpoints gains XP equal to 1/3 of damage dealt in combat. Trains passively while using any combat style. Cannot be trained independently except through quest rewards. Typically the first or second 99 for most players.

Ranged (13,034,431 XP to 99)

Time to 99: 50-150 hours depending on method and budget

Fastest (expensive): Red chinchompas at Maniacal Monkeys (500k-800k XP/hr) post-Monkey Madness II. Costs ~150-250m GP to 99 but incredibly fast.

How the XP Calculator OSRS Works

This calculator uses the current UK grading system and educational standards to help students, parents, and teachers understand academic performance. UK education follows specific grading frameworks that differ between GCSEs, A-Levels, and university degrees.

Understanding how grades are calculated and what they mean for future progression is important for making informed decisions about subject choices, university applications, and career planning.

Key Information for 2025/26

GCSEs in England use the 9-1 grading scale, where 9 is the highest and 4 is a standard pass (equivalent to the old C grade). A-Levels use the A*-E scale with UCAS tariff points ranging from 56 (A*) to 16 (E). Universities typically require grades between AAA and CCC depending on the course and institution, with highly competitive courses often asking for A*A*A.

Example Calculation

A student achieving grades of A*, A, and B at A-Level would earn UCAS tariff points of 56 + 48 + 40 = 144 points total. This exceeds the typical entry requirement for most Russell Group universities (128 points or AAB equivalent) and would make the student competitive for many courses.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I calculate XP needed in OSRS?

To calculate XP needed in OSRS, use the formula: XP = floor(L + 300 × 2^(L/7)) / 4 for each level L. Sum this for all levels from your current to target level. Our calculator does this automatically - just enter your current and target levels to see exact XP requirements. The formula is the same for all 23 skills.

What level is halfway to 99 in OSRS?

Level 92 is exactly halfway to level 99 in OSRS. Level 92 requires 6,517,253 XP, which is precisely half of the 13,034,431 XP needed for level 99. This surprises many players who assume level 50 would be the midpoint, but the exponential XP curve makes level 92 the true halfway point.

How much XP is each level in OSRS?

XP requirements increase exponentially in OSRS. Level 2 needs only 83 XP, level 50 needs 101,333 XP (less than 1% to 99), level 70 needs 737,627 XP (5.6% to 99), level 92 needs 6,517,253 XP (exactly 50% to 99), and level 99 needs 13,034,431 XP (100%). Check our complete XP table above for all levels 1-99.

Can I convert XP to level in OSRS?

Yes! Use the "XP to Level" mode in our calculator. Enter your current XP amount and it will show your current level and XP to the next level. The OSRS XP table uses a standard formula across all 23 skills (Attack, Strength, Defence, Ranged, Prayer, Magic, Runecrafting, Construction, Hitpoints, Agility, Herblore, Thieving, Crafting, Fletching, Slayer, Hunter, Mining, Smithing, Fishing, Cooking, Firemaking, Woodcutting, Farming), making conversion straightforward.

How long does it take to get 99 in a skill?

Time to 99 varies significantly by skill and method. Fast skills: Cooking (30-40 hrs), Fletching (15-20 hrs), Firemaking (40-50 hrs). Medium skills: Combat (100-200 hrs), Magic (80-150 hrs), Smithing (40-70 hrs).

Slow skills: Agility (200-300 hrs), Runecrafting (200-300 hrs), Mining (150-250 hrs), Slayer (200-400 hrs). Enter your XP/hour rate in the calculator for personalized estimates based on your training method.

What's the XP formula for Old School RuneScape?

The OSRS XP formula is: Total XP for level L = sum of floor((L-1) + 300 × 2^((L-1)/7)) / 4 for each level from 1 to L. This exponential formula means higher levels require exponentially more XP than lower levels. All 23 skills use this exact same formula, which is why the XP table is universal across all skills in the game.

How accurate is this XP calculator?

This calculator uses the exact formula from the OSRS game engine, providing 100% accurate XP calculations for all 23 skills. Values match the official game precisely. Whether you're calculating for Attack, Strength, Defence, Ranged, Prayer, Magic, Runecrafting, Construction, Hitpoints, Agility, Herblore, Thieving, Crafting, Fletching, Slayer, Hunter, Mining, Smithing, Fishing, Cooking, Firemaking, Woodcutting, or Farming, the results are exact.

Why is level 92 halfway to 99?

Level 92 is halfway to 99 because OSRS uses an exponential XP curve where each level requires more XP than the previous level. Level 92 = 6,517,253 XP (exactly 50% of total needed), Level 99 = 13,034,431 XP (100% of total needed). The exponential curve means early levels are very fast but later levels take exponentially longer. This is why levels 92-99 require as much time and effort as levels 1-92 combined.

What are the 23 skills in OSRS?

Old School RuneScape has 23 skills: Combat Skills (Attack, Strength, Defence, Ranged, Prayer, Magic, Hitpoints), Gathering Skills (Mining, Fishing, Woodcutting, Farming), Artisan Skills (Smithing, Crafting, Fletching, Firemaking, Cooking, Construction), and Support Skills (Runecrafting, Herblore, Agility, Thieving, Slayer, Hunter). All use the same XP table and formula.

How much total XP do you need to max in OSRS?

To max all 23 skills in OSRS, you need 299,791,913 total XP (13,034,431 XP × 23 skills). This typically takes 1,500-2,500 hours of efficient gameplay depending on methods used. With maximum efficiency and tick manipulation, some players have maxed in under 1,500 hours. Casual players may take 3,000+ hours spread over months or years.

Can I get XP past level 99?

Yes! You can continue gaining XP past level 99, up to 200 million XP in any skill. While your level caps at 99, XP continues to accumulate and is tracked on the official hiscores.

Players compete for ranks based on total XP in individual skills and overall XP across all skills. Reaching 200m XP in a skill is considered the ultimate achievement.
